International Solidarity Mission in the Philippines

Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) announced on October 10 the launching of a “International Learning and Solidarity Mission” and its participation in the mission. In the framework of this mission, international delegates visited rural communities in 4 different provinces in the Philippines “to document and report on the impact of climate injustice and militarization”.

The first update points out that the ISM’s activists visited Negros, Eastern Visayas and Mindoro, where they were warmly welcomed by the peasantry. The mission started its work documenting the State’s role in the exploitation and militarization of the areas and gathered reports and testimonies from the peasants.

The second update highlights the increased attempts to deter the activists. In an escalation of surveillance and harassment there were reported incidents of unidentified individuals on motorcycles, aerial drone surveillance, as well as military and police presence near their camp in Mindoro. Despite this harassment, the ISM activists were welcomed and integrated with the peasants from Rizal.
