Action by the CPES Against Reactionary Politician in Limoges

On November 6, the city hall of Limoges organized a gathering in the Beaubreuil neighborhood, the largest people’s neighborhood in the city. This event featured Émile-Roger Lombertie, the mayor, who, according to La Cause du Peuple (LCDP), attempted to portray this meeting as part of “participatory democracy.” The gathering served as a platform for the mayor to deliver a speech spreading a narrative of fear and the need for security.

LCDP reports that Lombertie is a well-known reactionary, notorious for his Islamophobic views. The room was filled with supporters of the mayor, local institutional members, and representatives of repressive forces, indicating it was far from a genuine exercise of democracy and public participation. Members of the Popular Committee for Mutual Aid and Solidarity (CPES) interrupted the mayor’s speech, denouncing his reactionary role and highlighting the real issues faced by the people in the Beaubreuil neighborhood.

The mayor ordered the police to expel the activists and subsequently ended the event:
