Public Event Against the Imprisonment of the Lawyer Lenir Correia

In the Law Faculty of the Federal University of Goiás, in Brazil, an event against the “Operation Godos” and the imprisonment of the popular lawyer Lenir Correia was held. Among the summoners is the Brazilian Association of Lawyers of the People (ABRAPO).

During the event there were different presentations. During the presentations, the recent history of the struggle for land in the state of Rondônia was explained, as well as current information on the recent offensive by the old Brazilian State against the poor peasants, which resulted on the illegal imprisonment of the lawyer Lenir Correia and a series of attacks and defamation against the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP).

During the event solidarity with the lawyer was shown and the peasant’s struggle for land in the state of Rondônia was praised. The importance to defend the Agrarian Revolution also stood out as a necessary struggle for the urban workers, because many peasants are forced to move to cities due to the lack of land and this fact increases the misery in the cities, as is explained in the event.

Lastly, the struggle for land in Brazil was linked to the struggle of the Palestinian people against Israel and Yankee imperialism. This struggle in Brazil is expressed through the big landlord class, subordinated to the interests of imperialism, pursuing and murdering peasants who struggle, accusing them of being “guerrillas” or “terrorists”, “the same reactionary deceit directed against the National Resistance of the Palestinian People”, was added.

At the end of the event, the attendees could sign the petition in favor of the immediate liberation of the lawyer Lenir Correia and in defense of the League of the Poor Peasants.
