Day of Mobilization in Colombia in Solidarity with Venezuela

On January 7 a national mobilization day was held in Colombia in solidarity with the Venezuelan people and to reject the Yankee imperialist aggression in Latin America. Nueva Democracia has reported on actions done by activists and revolutionary organizations.

In Medellin a march gathered hundreds of people. Graffiti were done and a flag of US with the face of the reactionary Donald Trump was burned.

The following day, popular activists made a mural with the slogan “Yankees Out” (Fuera Yanquis), which was censored the day after by the major of the city in an attempt to conceal the popular rejection of the crimes of imperialism. However, the popular youth rejected this action and stated that they will continue denouncing imperialism in similar actions.

In other cities, such as Bogota, Cali, Bucaramanga, and Monteria, among others, hundreds gathered in protest actions.

Petro, imperialist puppet before the national mobilization

After these days of mobilizations and a call by the US president, Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, made a change in his discourse and started to show his conciliatory and indulgent face before the Yankees.

Petro avoided to criticize Trump, even despite his threats of a similar intervention as in Venezuela toward Colombia, and focused his discourse instead against the guerrilla of the National Liberation Army (ELN). The Colombian government asked for support to Trump to combat the guerrilla groups on the border with Venezuela, playing into imperialist interests. Petro also proposed a dialogue between Venezuela, Colombia, and US to solve the situation in Venezuela, defending a “political exit to the conflict”, which other puppets in the region, as Lula in Brazil, Boric in Chile or Sheimbaum in Mexico, also promote.
