Yankee Imperialism Threatens to Attack Iran

Since December 28, multiple protests have erupted in Iran. They began due to the economic crisis affecting the country, but have turned into much more violent mass demonstrations. President Donald Trump, leader of the US imperialist State, has already made threats of direct intervention against Iran.

The demands of the protests were initially mainly economic, as reported by Yeni Demokrasi, being initiated by shopkeepers and receiving support from other popular sectors, starting in Tehran and quickly spreading to many cities across the country, reportedly more than 100 cities and towns. A Nova Democracia (AND) explains that these protests are of great importance “due to the crisis of bureaucratic capitalism, aggravated by US sanctions” that particularly affect the oil sector, which accounted for 57% of Iranian exports in 2024 and 65.5% of the annual budget. The country’s currency is suffering from devaluation and Iran’s GDP economic deficit was 1.7% in 2025 and is expected to be 2.8% in 2026. At the same time, according to the World Bank, 33% of the Iranian population lives below the poverty line.

Within a few days, these protests turned into street fighting, numerous institutions and universities were closed, and internet access has been blocked since January 8. Even the numbers are still unclear, it is clear that the regime is currently carrying out severe repression against the demonstrators. Many bourgeois media monopolies have claimed that several thousand people have died in the protests, although these claims are unproven and it is difficult to establish reliable figures.

Yankee imperialism, for its part, is taking advantage of these protests to threaten various actions against Iran. AND has reported that yesterday Trump raised the possibility of direct attacks, in addition to cyber operations and expanding economic sanctions against Iran, meeting with key military leaders and foreign policy advisors to discuss these issues. Added to these operations is Trump’s announcement on Monday that he will impose 25% tariffs on any country that establishes trade relations with Iran. Trump himself also stated that “help is on its way” and that the protesters should overthrow the Iranian government, making clear the policy of interference by Yankee imperialism in Iranian politics. For his part, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has explicitly stated that the State of Israel “needs to steer the protests sweeping Iran with an invisible hand.”

In this way, once again, Yankee imperialism, the sole hegemonic superpower, with the help of its lackeys, is attempting to dictate the fate of other countries and is planning future interventions against their sovereignty. However, only the Iranian people will decide which path to follow to achieve their liberation, with their own forces and without imperialist interference from abroad.
