On April 13, District Committee Member and District Commander Rangaboina Bhagya (Rupi) of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) was martyred in a clash against the old Indian State’s forces. A funeral ceremony for Rupi took place on April 15 in her hometown of Dharmaram village, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports.

AND reports that “the police had repeatedly tried to force her to surrender. According to this version, the Telangana police force had been publicly appealing for weeks for her to surrender. Rupi, however, refused to capitulate to the old State and continued to support the People’s War led by the CPI (Maoist) until the end.” Thus, Rupi was a communist combatant who rejected capitulation, opportunism and revisionism, and continued the People’s War until she was martyred, giving her life for the Revolution in India.

Thousands of people marched in her hometown, in Telangana. The peasants chanted “Bhagya (Rupi) is Immortal.” Banners were hung throughout the village, paying tribute to Rupi.
