AIL – French Section: A Specter is Haunting the World

We hereby share a statement from the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) – French Section that we received per e-mail. We made some grammatical and orthographical corrections to improve readability.

Anti-imperialists of the world, unite!

“They can call themselves anti-capitalists or anti-imperialists or communists or anarchists or Marxist.”

With this declaration, the state secretary of the United States (USA) Marco Rubio has explained, on last Thursday, 16th of July, the political objectives of the meeting appointed by Washington with representatives from 66 governments, in order to face the so-called “resurgence of far-left political terrorism”. Rubio qualified these forces as a “real and transnational threat that has existed for decades but is now experiencing a resurgence.”

Held in the center of Yankee imperialism, this meeting presents, like every thing, two aspects. On one hand, the most obvious aspect, is that a lot of attacks are to come, with the negation of our democratic liberties at their heart, that is to say, attacks on the freedom of assembly, of organizing, of expression, etc. More than ever before, it is time to self-organize in an autonomous manner regarding the State, in order to face those attacks and strike back. Any other strategy is doomed to fail in the mid- and long run. This aspect is the secondary aspect.

On the other hand, the other aspect is that Yankee imperialism and the other powers acknowledge the fact that a communist, anti-imperialist movement has emerged over the last years, has gotten some magnitude, and represents a dangerous player for the imperialist world order. This aspect is the principal one.

It is obvious that there’s still quite a way to go, and that we haven’t won yet. Numerous trials are awaiting us, hard and painful ones, but the direction to take is well paved now. The foundation of the Anti-Imperialist League – present in more than 15 countries, on different continents, counting dozens of organizations, and which keeps expanding – is but a milestone on the path we have to take.

Yet, it is necessary to stress and recall that Yankee imperialism, which represents the only hegemonic superpower, though in decline, isn’t ready to fall yet, and won’t fall just by itself, but indeed thanks to the combative actions of the peoples.

We are witnessing the end of a historical period – The Iran-USA memorandum appears as the concrete confirmation of this analysis. Similarly to the 7th of October, we won’t witness the deep changes from it for a while, but tangible facts exist as of now. The memorandum is one of its greatest examples.

This memorandum doesn’t only express a military and diplomatic defeat of the USA against Iran. It is part of the crisis process of Yankee imperialism, at the heart of the unprecedented general crisis of imperialism in decay.

The last six years have been characterized by three total defeats of Yankee imperialism and its allies, that is in Iran, in Palestine and in Afghanistan. This process marks the end of a historical period and the birth of a new one, during which people have risen up like never before, against oppression and against the imperialist aggression, through their armed vanguard, in a direct confrontation with the imperialist world system.

The first strategical defeat has been the American retreat from Afghanistan in 2021, after two decades of military occupation. The second started with the Al-Aqsa flood, on the 7th of October of 2023, which inflicted a historical political and military defeat to the Zionist entity and to American imperialism. The third one is now confirmed with the national resistance war of Iran, whose political outcome will come true through the memorandum, which includes the retreat of troops, indemnities and the concrete recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Hormuz Strait. Even though a few battles will be necessary between Yankee imperialism and Iran in order to enforce this memorandum, the battlefield already has its winner and no one will totally escape the decisions resulting from this military victory.

Another storm zone exists in the world, and lies in South America. This zone is vital for Yankee imperialism and is today going through revolutionary growth, and massive rebellions which are undoubtedly carrying hope too. This zone, considered as the Yankee’s backyard, is at the heart of intense contradictions. The masses, and principally the peasant ones, are rising up in relentless strikes, and in a revolutionary process more and more organized and profound. At the same time, Yankee imperialism which is in decline in other zones in the world, tightens its criminal influence on this zone and carries out ever more significant military operations in its will to keep this zone, the inhabitants, the resources, and production under control.

We can quote the cowardly and criminal kidnapping of Venezuela’s President, Maduro, or even the current embargo and recent threats towards Cuba. On top of that, Yankees, through their military bases, their puppet governments that are submitted to their growing oppressive interests against the masses of these countries and which prepare, under the cover of fighting drugs, to intervene militarily in numerous countries. But South America is a powder keg, and surely the poor peasant masses and the revolutionaries and the anti-imperialists won’t get attacked without reacting vigorously.

It is important to recall and put forward that whether it be for Palestine, for Lebanon, for Iran, for Cuba or for Venezuela, there is numerous popular mobilizations that keep going on today. These engagements are important to contribute to the defeat of imperialists and it is up to every anti-imperialist to take part in them and develop them. Other revolutionary storm zones are going to bloom most certainly, and in every place in the world, there exists a revolutionary process, be it more or less advanced, but still walking towards the same common goal – that is: to end this imperialist and capitalistic system. The recent example of yet another defeat of the operation from the old Indian State (Operation Kaagar), which attempted to annihilate the Indian revolution, is a case in point.

Today, the principal forces and the most advanced ones are categorically represented by the poorest masses, that is the poor peasants. It is those poor peasants, a lot of them struggling for the New Democratic Revolution, who are the principal force of the World Proletarian Revolution.

Whether it be in Afghanistan, in Lebanon, in Iran, in Palestine or in countries of South America, the social bases of rebels, of fighters, is the peasant social base. Thanks to the oppression by imperialists in these countries, the question of land, of the agrarian revolution, has in general not yet succeeded, and the peasants represent therefore the center of the revolutionary forces. If we focus on analyzing the situations of revolutionary forces in the outbreaks of revolutionary zones, we see two types of struggle that have an essential common point. Indeed, whether it be in Palestine, in Lebanon, in Iraq, or previously in Afghanistan, we are witnessing struggles of national liberation, or a defense of national sovereignty against imperialism in Iran. The central factor is to struggle to free a country from imperialism. We can observe that in the case of the struggles in Latin America, the presence of imperialists is not as visible, as strong, as in the Arab world, but it increases more and more, and there also, the principal enemy is imperialism. These two types of struggle have the same enemy – that is, imperialism.

We in France, and in the imperialist countries, struggle against our own imperialism, in a more advanced revolutionary stage, because we will have to carry out the socialist revolution directly, but the enemy remains the same.

That is why working with all our might to link the national liberation struggles and the proletarian revolution is a central task that every anti-imperialist has to take on. That is why defending the anti-imperialist resistance in the Arab world and in Iran today is an essential political task for the world anti-imperialist movement.

The case of Palestine, which since October the 7th has been a trigger, an accelerator, allows us to analyze the universal elements through a specific case. In Palestine, a small country, an oppressed, colonized nation, has made the choice to lead an active defense, and to lead a tactical counter-offensive against the Zionist entity and imperialism. With its action, Palestine has managed to rally masses from the whole world to its cause, and managed to strike a tremendous blow to zionism-imperialism. This expression of the principal contradiction in the world, with the oppressed people and nations and the imperialist forces in opposition, is found in the situations of all the oppressed people and nations. This is noticeable in every Arab people’s resistance in the region against imperialism, and also in the case of the Iranian Resistance.

We would like to emphasize this point, obvious to the broad masses, but hard to accept for a part of the activist underworld and among the petty-bourgeois masses in France and in Europe. The Iranian nation is, today, on the side of the World Proletarian Revolution. The sacrifice of the supreme guide, the ayatollah Khamenei, who has fallen in his combat post by choosing death, has strengthened the alliance between the bourgeoisie, the clergy, and the masses in the national defense against Yankee imperialism, the European imperialists and the reactionary Arab regimes. Of course, for the Iranian struggle to be totally mature, it will need a proletarian direction, but this should not prevent us from supporting and defending the nation that harms and inflicts the most damage to the USA in its righteous defense of its land, and without expressing any will to capitulate, quite the contrary actually.

What type of anti-imperialists would we be if we were to choose which struggle to defend regarding the political or religious character of its advocates? Shouldn’t we, as revolutionaries and anti-imperialists, be at the service of the national liberation struggles and even more in the region of the world that is the heart of the World Proletarian Revolution, in which Gaza is the capital?

Isn’t it Gaza the Resistant, South Lebanon and South Beirut the safety barrier, and Iran that managed to bring the imperialists to their knees and force them to rethink their project in the region? How then could we have any tasks other than making sure to support politically, morally and by every possible means these anti-imperialist resistances? For what are we waiting to launch a huge campaign of support and defense for the life of Palestinian and Lebanese prisoners, with at their head and as a symbol, the prisoner Ahmed Sa’adat, General Secretary of the PFLP. Then, despite time passing by, let us not forget the heart of the revolution that rumbles in the Arab world and in Iran, and let us not forget Gaza. That is why we are calling you to join the AIL campaigns, in order to act in a revolutionary manner for revolution here, and to support the anti-imperialist struggles there. Time has come, more than ever, to unite for victory or victory!

Down with imperialism and Zionism!

Let us develop a huge world anti-imperialist front!
