This week, from September 21 to 26, our democratic organization: The Front of the People – Red Sun is commemorating ten years of public life, a decade marked by organizational work, participation, and support for various popular sectors, workers, and indigenous peoples.

As part of this anniversary, various commemorative activities will take place throughout the week. Firstly, by commemorating the 10 years of public life of our democratic organization, as well as commemorating historical dates such as the 61st anniversary of the Assault on the Madera Barracks and the 34th anniversary of Chairman Gonzalo’s Historic Speech. We will also join again in the demand for truth and justice after the forced disappearance of the 43 teacher students from Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, within the framework of the 12th anniversary of the “Night of Iguala” .

61 years after of the Assault on the Madera Barracks

This September 23, 2026, marks the 61st anniversary of the Assault on the Madera Barracks, which took place in Ciudad Madera, Chihuahua, on September 23, 1965. The event is considered a relevant episode in the history of social and armed movements of Mexico during the second half of the 20th century. In the morning of September 23rd 1965, a group of 13 members of the GPG (Grupo Popular Guerrillero) attempted to take over the military barracks in the town, the confrontation ended with the deaths of eight guerrillas and six soldiers, including professor Arturo Gámiz, one of the main leaders of the movement. The assault on the Madera Barracks represents the beginning of the armed struggle for Socialism in Mexico and is therefore a reference point for the historical memory of the class struggle in Mexico.  

34 Years Since President Gonzalo’s Speech

On September 24, 1992, twelve days after his capture, Abimael Guzmán Reinoso (Chairman Gonzalo), leader of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP), was publicly presented before the press by the reactionary authorities of the old Peruvian State, dressed in a striped suit trying to caricature him. In front of his captors, despite the press, the reactionaries, and imperialism, Chairman Gonzalo rose invincible and defiant, delivering a speech addressed to the Party, to the fighters of the People’s Guerrilla Army (EGP), to the working class and the popular masses of Peru and the world, in which he maintained that his capture did not mean the end of the armed struggle and urged the revolutionaries to continue the People’s War.

Chairman Gonzalo had been captured on 12 of September 1992 during the so-called “Operation Victoria,” carried out by The Special Intelligence Group of the National Directorate Against Terrorism. 34 years later, the historic speech of Chairman Gonzalo shines victorious and powerful before the world as a defense of Maoism, of the PCP, of the People’s War in Peru and a call to struggle for Maoism as the third, new, and higher stage of Marxism.

12 years after the “Night of Iguala”

The Committee of Parents of the 43 disappeared students, and the Student Committee of the “Raúl Isidro Burgos” Rural Teacher-Training School of Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, maintain that twelve years after the State crime that resulted in massacre and forced disappearance of the students, there is neither truth nor justice.

The Mexican State continues to protect the army and the various federal forces that participated in real time during this sinister operation, and it is worth remembering that, in addition to the documents the army refuses to hand over, at that time Omar García Harfuch – now the federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection – was the state coordinator of the now-defunct Federal Police in the state of Guerrero.

As part of this twelfth anniversary, the Federation of Socialist Peasant Students of Mexico (FECSM) and various democratic organizations will hold a national march in Mexico City and organize actions in different states demanding truth and justice.
