Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico of the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo on October 20.
In the face of the water crisis in Guadalajara and the Jalisco metropolitan area, popular protests are spreading, creating a significant and creative atmosphere of resistance. Following the demonstrations on October 11 and 18, last Sunday, October 25, for the third consecutive time, people took to the streets again with a march that began at Morelos Park on Calzada Independencia and ended at City Hall, where a rally was held, along with a parallel assembly that culminated in a political-cultural event at the so-called Red Park.
Throughout the week, there were other displays of discontent, including intermittent roadblocks in the metropolitan area. However, while it is true that the discontent of the masses continues to grow, it is also true that opportunism (primarily from Morena), supported by other reformist and revisionist currents, is acting like firefighters, trying to extinguish the fighting spirit of the popular youth and the masses with pacifist and legalistic rhetoric that prioritizes demobilization over the forging of an authentic democratic movement independent from the State.
As we have said in our previous analysis, “it is imperative that the popular movement in Jalisco and throughout the country shake off that cowardly veil of pacifism and passivity that the ruling classes, supported by the media monopolies and opportunism, seek to impose upon it.”
As the Front of the People – Red Sun, we believe that nothing can replace the exercise of assemblies for debate and decision-making, and nothing can replace the political education of the people for the awakening of class consciousness. The political mobilization of the masses is also indispensable, as is the forging of the movement and the people’s fighters in the direct struggle against the regime. In other words: the movement is built not only through assemblies, cultural events, and marches, but also through fighting in the streets, educating the masses in revolutionary violence. This is how a mass movement is built from a revolutionary perspective.
We once again salute the struggle of the people of Guadalajara and the surrounding municipalities. The defense of water is part of the struggle for life, for land, and for national liberation. We encourage the formation of Revolutionary Committees in the region to take on the tasks of the moment in the heat of the class struggle and the fierce two line struggle.
Down with Lemus, MC [translator’s note: Jesús Pablo Lemus Navarro is the current governor of Jalisco and belong to the Party Citizens Movement (Movimiento Ciudadano, MC)], and all the parties of the big bourgeoisie!
In defense of water, in defense of life, the people’s struggle is just and combative!
