Brazil: Bolsonaro Flees to the US and Declares Himself Winner of the Election

While the Liberal Party (PL) of Bolsonaro has by now recognized their defeat in the second round of the electoral farce, Bolsonaro himself reacted in a different manner. Escaping investigations against him involving money laundering he fled the country to head for the US, where he asked for “political asylum”.

During this investigation the Supreme Court had asked him to hand in his passports and not to leave the country following his electoral defeat.

As A Nova Democracia (AND) has reported, this escape had been coordinated together with Yankee imperialism beforehand. This plan also included a disinformation campaign in the media about times and routes of him leaving. CNN Brasil for instance has acknowledged having shared falsified information during this campaign.

While cowardly fleeing the country Bolsonaro has taken to X to first proclaim himself “elected president,” and then later “rightful leader” of Brazil. Meanwhile Trump has repeatedly made comments putting the legitimacy of the electoral results into question.

In an analysis of the current tactic of Yankee imperialism to impose its plans against Brazil, AND highlights they are looking to impose the same policies they were going to use with their more open lackey of Bolsonaro, including possible destabilization strategies. They underscore how the elections never can or will resolve the desperate needs of the masses, instead calling to strengthen popular organization, struggle and resistance.
