Ecuador: The Referendum, the Strategy of Imperialism and the Fascist Noboa Government

We publish an unofficial translation of a statement of the Front for the Defense of the Struggles of the People in Ecuador.

The comprador bourgeois/big land lord government of Noboa, goes further. We have characterized it; we say that it is fascist, yes; not only has it exacerbated the repressive apparatuses of the old State, it has granted them more power, more protagonism and capacity for decision in political tasks; it has launched a populist campaign that seeks support for attacking all the institutions of the State; it gives free reign to the voracity of the transnationals, many of them allied to national finance capital; it neutralizes popular organization, it disregards the demo-bourgeois rights, it is corporate, elitist and centralist; arrogant, despite the fact that it constantly appeals to the “sacrifice” of the masses to “move the country forward”.

It committed the folly of violently seizing the Mexican embassy. The political and economic cost will be great, and will undoubtedly fall on the shoulders of the masses. He was not able to stop the deliquesce, the gangs, on the contrary, he has used the violence they generate to be able to reaffirm his project of intervention and military control; he has found ways to generate a state of “terror” and intimidation that in one way or another has “knocked” on the doors of the people’s, peasant’s and workers’ organizations.

We are only a few days away from the referendum proposed by Noboa. We attend in darkness, without electricity, with a convulsed country; and yet, in this scenario, Noboa shields himself in the “radical” discourse, blaming other political actors for the crisis we are experiencing. He points out that the blackouts are the result of sabotage. Moreover, he prosecutes more than twenty officials for this reason. He does not mind sending anyone to jail to achieve his purposes. He considers himself to be above the laws, above the constitution.

The proletariat, peasants and people of Ecuador, regardless of the results of the referendum, will continue to see how their living conditions are deteriorating; obviously, the triumph of the big landlords’ proposal will worsen the crisis, will make work more precarious, will hand the country over to the mining transnationals, to imperialism, and will turn Ecuador into a joint US-Israeli military base.

He must be stopped. The task is not at the ballot boxes, in the referendum, in the elections; to see it that way is opportunism; it is to drag the masses into a journey that will not solve their fundamental problems. We must insist on strengthening the unions, the peasant and people’s organization; radicalize their actions. We cannot allow ourselves to be frightened by the results of the consultation that seeks to create the figure of extradition, toughening of sentences and converting the State into a more punitive, imprisoning and repressive machine than it already is. This purpose of Noboa and the State seeks to reactivate bureaucratic capitalism and, to do so, must deepen our condition of being a semi-colonial and semi-feudal country.

Let us fight to construct generated organisms and let us make them overflow in the streets, in the countryside, let us give no truce until we dismantle the tyrant, his government and open the breach for the definitive destruction of the old bureaucratic-big landlord State.

The referendum or elections are not the road that the people must travel if they want their emancipation, their liberation.

PEOPLE OF ECUADOR: DO NOT VOTE!

NO TO THE REFERENDUM!

NO TO THE CORPORATIZING PLAN OF IMPERIALISM, BIG BOURGEOISIE AND BIG LANDLORDS!

NO TO THE MILITARIZATION OF THE COUNTRY!

YANKEES: GO HOME!

ORGANIZE, COMBAT AND RESIST!

ONLY WITH STRUGGLE CAN RIGHTS AND LIBERTIES BE WON!
