Bangladesh: Sell-out, terror and resistance

A demonstration was held in the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by democratic students, crossing police barriers and barricades to demand the cancellation of the anti-national agreements including the railway corridor between India and Bangladesh.

The agreements were signed during Prime Minister Hasina’s visit to New Delhi in late June. One of the significant agreements inked during Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to India was about a first-of-its-kind railway link. Both governments hailed the landmark project, which will connect India’s northeastern parts to Bangladesh. A firestorm of criticism in Bangladesh erose.

For India, the link through Bangladesh offers an alternative route to the Siliguri Corridor – a narrow passage also known as Chicken’s Neck, which the two sides utilize as part of a 1980 trade agreement.

Meanwhile there is also an outrage over eviction of and terror against the Harijan communities in Mironzilla led by local councilor and the cities corporation officer. The revolutionary student-youth movement strongly condemns and protests this incident.

The mayor of the city corporation is trying to evict the cleaning workers in Mironzilla colony located in Ward No. 33 of the Dhaka South City Corporation. The case was filed in the High Court, a stay order was issued. But in defiance of the order of the court in the presence of Executive Magistrate Moniruzzaman led by the local councilor Awal Hossain Mironzilla Colony was openly attacked with weapons. The gate of the colony was broken and vandalized. At least 60 people have been injured. This incident is not isolated.

The terrorist forces of the Hasina-Awami fascist government are proving it again and again. The attack on the Harijan community in violation of the High Court order proves that these fascist forces do not heed the judgment of the court. Harijans who have lived there for almost 400 years are being dispossessed of the land. Mironzilla residents are trying to resist. Students, intellectuals, workers and farmers are calling upon the vast people of the country to unite and resist against this injustice.
