INDIA: CASR STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE NIA RAID IN BHILAI
Hereby we share a statement we have received.
CASR STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE NIA RAID IN BHILAI AGAINST THE CULTURAL ACTIVIST AND TRADE UNION LEADER KALADAS DEHARIYA
Early in morning of 25th July NIA raided the house of cultural activist and trade union leader, Kaladas Dehariya, in Bhilai. The crackdown on Kaladas Dehariya should not be seen in isolation. In Chhattisgarh, every voice against corporate loot and workers’ exploitation is being silenced. The genocidal war against adivasis, to ensure corporate loot, has intensified in Central India after the BJP came to power in Chhattisgarh State. Those who questioned this war against adivasis and workers’ exploitation are now implicated in false cases in the name of curbing anti-national activity. After Sarju Tekkam and Sunita Pottam, along with various members and office bearers of Moolwasi Bacchao Manch, were arrested, they have now targeted Kaladas to choke his voice against the war on people.
The current reason behind this crackdown is that Kaladas, along with various civil society organizations in Bhilai, under the banner of Jan Sangarsh Morcha, raised their voice against fake encounters and extra-judicial killings in the Bastar region. NIA has now implicated Kaladas in a case registered in August 2023. NIA had already added the name of trade union leader, Baccha Singh, and anti-displacement activist, Damodar Turi, in that case. They have also linked senior Maoist leaders to this case. This shows how the state crushes all voices against workers’ exploitation and corporate loot. NIA is using false cases against activists to harass and silence them.
Campaign Against State Repression strongly condemns this witch-hunting of activists and their implication in false cases. We demand the immediate withdrawal of the case against Kaladas Dehariya. We urge all democratic minded people and organisations to come together and oppose this ongoing crackdown in Central India on activists and the general populace.
