We previously reported on the struggle against DEDAŞ by the people of Turkey.

A few days ago Dicle Electricity Distribution Inc. (DEDAŞ) teams raided the rural Sürgücü District in Mardin in the morning with military armored vehicles. The teams, who went to the neighborhood with hundreds of soldiers, wanted to move the electricity meters outside the houses, but the people blocked the road to prevent the gendarmerie and DEDAŞ teams from entering the neighborhood.

There was an argument between the neighborhood residents and the gendarmerie for a while. The gendarmerie then attacked the people with pepper gas and water cannons. While many people were affected by the gas during the attack, there were tension in the neighborhood when the people responded.

The tension that occurred after the military attacked the people were calmed down by a DEM Party delegation which went to the region. After negotiations, electricity was restored to the village where the electricity was cut off.

Soldiers again attacked the villagers, who responded to the soldiers with throwing stones. A fire broke out in the forest area when the soldiers opened fire (supposedly into the air). The confrontation continued for a while, the villagers kept protesting by blocking the road and the soldiers retreat to the entrance of the village, the villagers’ wait in the area continues.
