Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We publish an unofficial translation of the Mexican part of the weekly newsletter by SolRojista:
Last Thursday, October 24, two important people’s mobilizations took place in Mexico City.
In the morning, democratic activists took over the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City, 13 years after the extrajudicial execution of Carlos Sinuhé Cuevas Mejía, a student at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the UNAM, who was murdered by alleged members of the Mexican army registered as “students” of the FES-Cuautitlán who had followed him for weeks for his activism. This would not be the only case of military infiltration in the student movement during the recent history of the country. Lourdes Mejía Aguilar, Carlos’ mother, was present accompanied by organizations such as Current of the People – Red Sun, who in turn placed posters of missing, murdered and imprisoned activists in Oaxaca. Graffiti were painted on the premises of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office demanding justice for Carlos Sinhué, freedom for Georges Abdallah, and rejecting the militarization of the country.
In the afternoon, thousands of activists from various democratic and revolutionary organizations marched from the anti-monument of the 43 missing people to the main square of the city, denouncing the war against the people in Chiapas, which has escalated in recent weeks, reaching the communities that are the support bases of the EZLN, as well as the murder of Father Marcelo Pérez.
Stop state terrorism and the war against the people!
