Tjen Folket Media (Norway) on the elections in Germany
The Norwegian revolutionary media, Tjen Folket Media (TFM) has written an analytical article on the upcoming elections which will be held on February 23 in Germany, after the crisis and collapse of the government last week. We hereby share some excerpts and a resume of this article. We recommend to our readers to visit and read the article:
An important point that TFM highlights is that the political crisis in Germany is not an isolated fact, but it “fits into a larger context of political crisis in Europe and North America, which is nothing more than an expression of the general crisis of the imperialist system throughout the world.”
As TFM explains, the so-called “traffic light coalition” government (“Ampel-Koalition” in German) managed to be one of the most unpopular German governments in history. Formed in 2021, it soon expressed its anti-popular character by its main measures or policies, such as “corona pandemic, price increases, welfare cuts and an increasingly unpopular and expensive support for the Zelenskiy government in Ukraine”. Even though the government tried to fulfill the task of defend German imperialism and give an impulse to it, it failed since economy is experiencing a clear stagnation. Regarding the economical crisis, TFM points out the huge budget deficit of the German government: 8-9 billion euros. But also it is stated that the alternatives to this problem “are plague or cholera, even greater welfare cuts or increased national debt. In the long term, there are thus no ‘good’ alternatives, only various evils”.
In these elections, new challengers have shown up, of whom TFM analyzes that they “represent the bourgeoisie’s attempt to find ‘alternatives’ that can ensure that large parts of the masses still participate in the bourgeois electoral circus (…). Both AfD and BSW appear as potential ‘new workers’ parties’ that can channel the discontent of the working class into parliamentary and harmless forms”.
But TFM states: “The ‘new’ alternatives are just ‘more of the old’, just in ‘new’ packaging. Neither AfD nor BSW, just as Trump or the Norwegian Listhaug, can solve the structural and inherent problems that are part of the system itself. The only thing they can succeed in is giving a new impulse to a dying system, and their choleric solutions will only hasten the decay and accelerate the crisis. The only real solution is to sweep the entire rotten and dying system onto the dustbin of history, through new democratic and socialist revolutions.”
