Syria: Assad overthrown, Turkish offensive, Israeli aggression and the Yankees lift another stone
To topple the Assad regime in Syria has been a fundamental cornerstone in the plan of Yankee-imperialism for “a new Middle East” for more than 20 years. Through sanctions, subversion and direct military aggression, using proxies and regional powers like Turkey and Israel, the Yankees have really worked hard to achieve this objective. Now a former al-Qaeda affiliate have done the job.
The notorious murderers of the al-Nusra Front (an al-Qaeda spin off), re-branded as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and re-styled by the Turkish Army, led a Blitzkrieg offensive from their bases in the Turkish protectorate in North Western Syria and conquered Damascus in a little bit more than a week. Bashar al-Assad has been flown out by his foreign patrons and now enjoys the lovely Russian winter in Moscow.
This astonishingly abrupt end to the Assad regime certainly have many reasons. Without doubt many commanding officers have received huge bribes for capitulating to an, in several aspects, inferior enemy, but they would only risk to turn coats in a situation where Hezbollah has been seriously weakened and Iran has to focus on self-defense. Still the main reason for the collapse of the regime was its lack of popular support. The masses did not defend Assad and his Army lacked moral.
Now the struggle for grabbing a piece of Syria, as large as possible, has begun.
The blood-drenched genocidal hordes of the Zionists are occupying an extensive area south of Damascus, they closed the border in order to isolate Palestine and to be able to launch a ground attack on the Syrian capitol at any time. Simultaneously the Israeli Air Force are indiscriminately bombing all institutions and structures in the country that they consider to be of military importance in anyway, so to leave the new regime no means to defend itself against the wrath of “the choosen ones”.
Turkey let the troops of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) – which as proof of its “Syrian National” character has the habit of raising the flag of the Turkish Republic wherever it goes – loose on the SDF (dominated by the YPG) controlled areas. Massive bombings, as always targeting as much civilian infrastructure as possible, are part of the Neo Osmanic warfare. The Turkish State consider itself to be the one who should be ranked winner in this perverse contest and it wants to get a grip on its prize. Pushing back the Kurds in Syria, strengthening its alliance with the mercenaries of Barsani and putting the Kandil bases of the PKK under severe pressure, altogether make up an excellent framework for the ongoing negotiations with Öcalan on a “peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem”. What you get at the negotiation table is merely a reflection of the results on the battlefield – the Turkish strategists know that very well.
The SDF forces fulfilled their role as “the boots on the ground” that the Yankees needed in Syria. They were useful in dividing the country. They played along believing to be able to use the collaboration with the imperialist superpower to achieve their own aims. Now the future of the Rojava region is at stake and there is no doubt that the Yankees will sacrifice the Kurds when they consider it opportune to do so. With Turkish allies in charge of Damascus, the SNA advancing and the Turkish Army stepping up its attacks, the SDF forces can try to clinge to the Yankees and make an unholy alliance with the Israelis, or do the only thing that would provide them with a real perspective of success, that is to rely only on their own forces – a road that of course is hard and torturous, but still the only road that actually serves the interests of the Kurdish National Movement.
Blinken has put forward three very modest requirements that the al-Nusra Front / HTS has to accept to receive the formal blessing of the Yankees: reject “terrorism”, destroy the chemical weapons (existing or not, the Israelis already took care of that) and to respect the rights of women and the minorities. That is, merely by paying lip-service to the demands of the US-imperialists, yesterdays “terrorists” can become “statesmen”– what only proves once again that the term “terrorist” for the imperialists is nothing more than a political label that depends on the conjuncture and has nothing to do with the practice of a Party, organization or State. Still, if the leadership of the al-Nusra Front / HTS makes a deal with the Yankees and the Israelis, they will loose all credibility visa vi their rank and file. If a person who have taken the name al-Jolani as his nome de guerre, a direct reference to the occupied Golan Heights, bows down to the Zionists, he obviously will have an image problem.
The collapse of the Assad regime in the current moment is not a good thing for the National Resistance Front of Palestine. Among others, Yahya al-Sinwar himself praised the role of Syria in the strengthening of the ties between Hezbollah and the Palestinian resistance. Important Palestinian organizations historically had have very close relations to Syria and in regards to the logistics of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” it of course played a central role. But, contrary to what the imperialists preach, the National Resistance Front of Palestine is not “a proxy” of anyone. It relies on the people of Palestine and no one else. Even if the conditions now, momentarily, have become more difficult, as long as the Palestinian resistance keeps a firm grip on the gun, relies on the people and maintain the United Front, then no force in the world will be able to defeat it.
Currently everything seems to indicate that the situation in Syria will turn very similar to the one in Iraq. Different armed organizations will control different parts of the country, with foreign occupiers on its soil (Russians, Turkish, Israelis and Yankees). Bush (the son, the addict) proclaimed mission accomplished when Saddam Hussein went hiding, but in-spite of everything the Yankees did (genocide, Balcanization) the whole thing back-fired. Syria will be the same. The Yankees have lifted another stone that will fall on their own feet.
