AND Editorial: The imperialists sow winds of war, they will reap storms
We herby publish an unofficial translation of the latest editorial of A Nova Democracia:
Faced with a risk of this kind, the anti-imperialist forces will not stop at tedious appeals for peace, but will rise up with all their fury against the incendiary criminals of unjust war, with all kinds of scourges from their bowels.
Nearly 200,000 people died in more than 134 ongoing wars between the second half of 2023 and the first half of 2024, representing an increase of 37% over the previous 12 months. There are also more than 43 million refugees from wars of all kinds, and another 80 million forced to refuge within their own country. These figures were compiled by the IISS Armed Conflict Survey 2024 and show that the general crisis of imperialism’s decomposition, at a terminal and unprecedented stage, brings together all the fundamental contradictions: war, a phenomenon that expresses the most acute degree of conflict between classes, political groups and nations, is the phenomenon that is most present every day. The world is entering a new period of revolutions and wars of all kinds, including the danger of a new and third world war.
What about Syria: the deposition of Bashar Al-Assad by the forces of a former branch of Al-Qaeda is a demonstration in that country of the degree to which the general crisis has deepened – one of the signs of which is the sudden change in situations that seemed consolidated. The Russian forces present in Syria, which have always been a guarantee of air supremacy, did not move to defend the Assad regime, which had practically handed over control of the government to them; the militias and groups that acted in support of Assad, particularly Hezbollah, were sucked into the defense of Lebanon with the Zionist aggression, so that there was no defense possible. The HTS group and others, supported by the forces of the old expansionist Turkish State, found virtually no resistance as they advanced. Syria, battered, has been cut up and divided; the Turkish ruling classes are advancing on Syrian territory and dreaming of the return of the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire; the Zionists are taking advantage and advancing, annexing the Golan Heights and will soon advance further on Syrian territory. The HTS group has not fired a single shot at all the invaders who are seizing territory, which makes it clear that it is part of the criminal foreign aggression and troops on the ground of Yankee imperialism, and therefore does not represent national interests at all.
Syria is under threat, and Bashar Al-Assad has shown himself incapable of defending the nation, since he handed it over to the Russians, believing that they would defend it: rather, the Russians sold it in exchange for their own interests, in particular, in exchange for concentrating on Ukraine. The Syrian popular masses will have to follow the example of the Iraqi, Afghan and Palestinian people: take up arms, pursue guerrilla warfare with independence, for long and hard years, until they regain territorial unity and expel the invaders.
In Ukraine, its armed forces are on the verge of collapse, young Ukrainians are refusing to join and conscription is being forced. Zelensky’s troops are surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Russian and North Korean troops on the main fronts, and the Ukrainians see that they have become nothing more than NATO’s cannon fodder. Zelensky orders his troops to use US weapons to attack Russian territory, in a desperate attempt to force a negotiation that will ensure the continuity of his NATO puppet government at the end of the war. Here, although there is a relative balance of active conditions and means of war between the main imperialist contenders, which tends to prevent a decisive confrontation, it is also true that this whole situation objectively represents a dangerous increase in the risk of precipitating events that create scenarios in which an escalation towards a new and third world war becomes unavoidable. The Yankees don’t want to precipitate a new confrontation until they have established a missile defense system sufficient to at least largely neutralize the nuclear-war capability of the atomic superpower Russia, and without first concentrating such a volume of troops stationed on Russia’s borders in order to assault and occupy its vast territory; but if the conflicts reach a certain proportion, their transition to world confrontation could become irreversible. For although there are many intermediate objectives between now and a third world war, incidents that precipitate everything are not only possible, but increasingly dangerous.
The anti-imperialist forces, faced with a risk of this kind, will not stop at tedious appeals for peace, but will rise up with all their fury against the criminal arsonists of the unjust war, with all kinds of blows to their guts: that the anti-imperialist actions of various kinds and in every possible country in the world impose themselves and make the revolution grow, mobilizing millions and tens of millions all over the planet, which will force the imperialist forces to split even more, because the threat of a world war in the conditions of today’s weapons of mass destruction will in itself throw seas of masses onto the streets and growing armed contingents to overthrow the imperialist governments and their lackeys. The experience of the two great world wars has shown how the imperialists can be divided, and the peace-loving peoples with their just wars will defeat the war-mongers one by one. The historical and political trend of the world is towards revolution, and quite contrary to a new imperialist order, if a new world war breaks out, new and many proletarian revolutions will resurface.
