Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil: Residents resist the attempt to repossess Barra do Jucu in Vila Velha

Residents of Barra do Jucu, located in region 5 of Vila Velha, reported an attempted repossession that took place on Thursday, December 12th. The situation escalated when several police cars arrived at the scene, accompanied by a city hall tractor that was used to demolish a house on the street.

The demolition was particularly concerning for one resident, who stated that the city hall was planning to tear down a bridge that provides access to her garage. Alarmingly, the police proceeded to demolish the residence without presenting a repossession warrant.

The resident indicated that the city hall had given her a deadline to vacate the property by January, and all her belongings were still inside the house at the time of the demolition attempt.

In response to what they deemed an unfair attempt at repossession, a group of outraged residents organized a barricade to prevent the act. They set fire to materials and defended their right to remain in their homes. Following the failed attempt at repossession, the city hall vehicles and tractor left the scene.

The controversy surrounding this incident is further fueled by plans for a new development in the region, which includes the construction of a Carone group supermarket. Municipal official Arnaldinho, known for his alignment with large business interests and his previous declarations of war on land occupations in Vila Velha, has once again demonstrated his support for these enterprises at the expense of the people.
