Brazil: Political-Cultural event for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People
We hereby share a resume of a report on an important event published by A Nova Democracia (AND).
On November 29, a great event was celebrated at the Federal University of Pará, Belém campus, to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. At the event there were “a conference, a screening and discussion, a presentation of art works and a cultural contribution at the end with the participation of students, teachers, organizations and social movements”.
In a first conference there were indigenous peasant leaders who shared table with the representatives of the movement of solidarity with Palestine. They compared both cases, for example the struggle of the Palestinian people for land and the struggle by the indigenous peoples in Brazil at the countryside in the Amazon. Both peoples resisted and faced genocide, usage of diseases as biological warfare, etc.
After the Conference a screening of a movie and discussion using a documentary produced by Al Jazeera, was carried out.
Afterwards the Support Committee to AND in the region interviewed a MEPR activist who highlighted the relevance of the event:
“To carry out this political-cultural event is quite significant. Firstly, because we unite with the proletariat and oppressed peoples around the world in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, in defense of their revolutionary armed struggle for national liberation that illuminates the path of the anti-imperialist struggle like a beacon. And by doing it, we are filled with optimism and hope, as Palestine is a living proof that the revolutionary struggle is possible today, that imperialism can and will be defeated by the masses, even if this has a high cost and takes a long time, as we have seen.
Secondly, because this event takes place here in the Amazon, which mainly Yankee imperialism is closely following, due to its desire to plunder our wealth, also promoting genocide, terrorism, murders and persecutions and the destruction of the natural environment. Here too, the masses face enemies armed to the teeth, the Bolsonarist paramilitary hordes at the service of the latifundium, who commit all types of atrocities. Therefore, it is necessary to uphold the Palestinian example, the example that the revolutionary struggle is possible under any conditions if it is supported and trusted by the masses. And the event fulfilled this objective”.
Afterwards art works, which topic was the Palestinian resistance, were presented:
