France: Stop the Criminalization of the support to the Palestinian People

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by the National Bureau of the Ligue de la Jeunesse Révolutionnaire and Jeunes Révolutionnaires.

Our comrade Alex is facing State political repression for his thirst for justice, like hundreds of people in France since October 7, 2023. Justice will judge on May 15, 2025, a need for justice, ‘a universal need that can only be a necessity of a State that proclaims itself a Republic.’ A vital necessity for any person of sane spirit.

Our crime, and that of our comrade, is to rise against the injustice and massacres that an entire people have suffered for decades. Our crime is to oppose genocide, to support the right to self-determination and the national liberation struggle in the face of a colonization process. These two points are, moreover, absolutely in accordance with both the penal code and the UN Charter. Our crime is to demand the application of the law for our comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, beyond any humanist principle that would impose his immediate release.

How could we remain silent when our media, the State, our Republic supports a genocidal massacre that can only remind us of the darkest hours of Europe? What will happen if no one rises against genocide and equally against the apologists of its normalization? How can we remain silent when we see our most basic freedoms eroded by a power that crushes everything that constitutes the principles of our political and social life? What to do when ‘maintaining order’ becomes the social contract of a Republic that was born precisely against the arbitrariness of lettres de cachet? What can we do if not react as free and demanding citizens?

Everything appears to be a political arrest and trial; we therefore intend to defend ourselves politically. What was once the exception in France is gradually becoming the norm. The division of powers is fading to give way to an arbitrary executive power, relegating the role of citizens to that of mere extras. It is ‘terrorists’ who defended the birth of the Republic against its enemies; it is ‘terrorists’ who fought against fascism and for the independence of France. Perhaps, and this is a question, those who are accused of glorifying it today are the ones who most defend our fundamental democratic rights.

Our crime is to struggle to live free.

We will no longer be silent, and we reaffirm our unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their resistance.

Solidarity with Alex and all those facing repression for supporting the Palestinian people and opposing the genocide of Palestinians.
