Next Friday, April 11, will mark six years since the murder of our comrade Luis Armando Fuentes Aquino, who was a member of the Current of the People Red Sun, Coordinator of the Isthmus Regional Committee, a member of the Committee in Defense of the Land of the Eastern Isthmus Zone, and a community authority of Cerro Grande, San Francisco Ixhuatán. His death has been documented as a State crime before the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Oaxaca and institutions such as the Human Rights Defender of the People of Oaxaca (DDHPO). Comrade Luis Armando was murdered after leading a strong social movement of poor peasants and Binniza’ and Ikoots fishermen who opposed the imposition of the mining mega-project “Cerro Grande II,” which concession was granted by the government of Enrique Peña Nieto to a Canadian company to exploit the region’s minerals.
According to denounces done by the communities in the Eastern Zone, Luis Armando had already been threatened by armed individuals working for the mining industry and even by officials from the Federal Electricity Commission, as he was also leading a strike against high electricity prices in the region, being part of the Civil Resistance. Luis Armando was murdered just one day after General Emiliano Zapata, and within the framework of that centenary (04/10/2019), he led a vigorous mobilization of poor peasants and fishermen commemorating the agrarian revolutionary. The next day, he would meet the same fate as him at the hands of paramilitaries.
As part of the actions of the Day of Struggle in Defense of the Rights of the People, Justice, and Freedom, on April 11, the Current of the People Red Sun will carry out TWO SIMULTANEOUS MARCHES, the first in Tehuantepec and the second in Oaxaca. Both mobilizations will commemorate the 8 SolRojistas murdered in the struggle for land: Faustino Acevedo Bailón (May 4, 2006), Alfredo Errestre Vázquez (October 13, 2007), Rosalino Díaz Barrera (January 31, 2008), Paulino Salud Lándiz (May 4, 2009), Luis Armando Fuentes Aquino (April 11, 2019), Félix Vicente Cruz (April 13, 2023), Jesús Manuel García Martínez (October 27, 2022), and Eutiquio Loaeza Jiménez (March 23, 2025).
Fallen comrades in the struggle, will be avenged in the struggle! Because the color of blood is never forgotten, the massacred will be avenged!
