Brazil: 1st of May Protests in São Paulo rejects the 6×1 scale, police violence and genocide of the Palestinian people

Hereby we publish an unofficial translation of a report published by A Nova Democracia.

Thousands of workers of São Paulo (SP) condemned police violence, the genocide of the Palestinian people and the 6×1 scale in a powerful protest of the 1st of May, the Day of Proletarian Internationalism. The march gathered thousands on the Avenida Paulista with the present revolutionary movements.

The protest began on the Oswaldo Cruz square and headed towards the Fiesp [Translator’s note: Federation of the Industries of the State of São Paulo, union in the industrial sector]. The avenue was full of posters with slogans like: End the 6×1 scale!, 4×3 if they can we do as well!. The demonstrators also demanded that the government keeps its promises of the electoral campaign like f. e. the repeal of the labor reform.

On the Square of Liberty the demonstrators of the Worker’s League extended huge banners with the slogans “End 6×1 scale for the worker’s right to more sleep, study and leisure!”.

An other Banner was presented by the activists of the Red Unit – League of Revolutionary Youth (UV-LJR) demanded justice for the young Congolese, Ngange Mbaye, who has been murdered by the MP. The case of the teenager was also commemorated on the posters of the National Union of Workers of Camelôs, merchants and informal street vendors BraziI (Unicab).

The activists of the Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) raised the slogan: Anti-imperialists of all the world, unite! The revolutionaries denounced imperialism and saluted the national liberation struggle in Palestine, and the ongoing revolutions in Peru, India and the Philippines. On the right moment, red smoke-bombs were burned, giving the protest a combative tone. The revolutionaries also distributed leaflets to the workers.

The Newspaper A Nova Democracia, sent a correspondent an crew members to the demonstration where they sold many editions of the Newspaper AND.

Weak and isolated, the government ignores the streets

Keeping distance to the revolutionary agitation, and even other central yellow unions, the Unique Workers Central (CUT) decided to make an own event on the ABC Paulista. The Leadership of the union tried to convince the president Luiz Inácio (PT) to join the event, but failed.

Luiz Inácio said that he was too tired after international trips to attend the 1st of May. Or more likely the mandatory decided to avoid the demonstration so he doesn’t appears again on an empty demonstration.

The president also said that it could be misinterpreted if he attends one particular protest, and not an other in São Paulo. But the truth is that if Luiz Inácio appears on an event against the 6×1 scale, he even could be rejected, principally by the revolutionary movements.

That’s why, despite of not moving forward the agenda of the 6×1 scale, the president didn’t fulfilled any of his promises of the campaign, to improve the life of the working class and the toiling masses. For example, till today he didn’t repealed the labor reform.
