Austria – 1st of May: Shoulder to Shoulder against Imperialism – Forward with the Working Class!
Hereby we publish an unofficial translation of a report on 1st of May of Die Rote Fahne – Austria.
Thousands took to the streets, on this 1st of May in Austria, to stand against imperialistic war, warmongering and the anti-social and anti-democratic course of the ruling – and to raise high the red flag of the proletariat! It surely was the strong unity of the anti-imperialist and revolutionary forces, that made this 1st of May in Austria, one of the most important of the last years – and therefore made a strong hit against the intent of the ruling to split the anti-imperialist movement! Long live the 1st of May 2025!
The social democracy swears itself to politics of welfare cuts
The 1st of May event of the social democracy, that is being held traditionally at the town hall in Vienna, represented, as expected, the opposite. Here was planned to swear in the social democratic followers in the anti-workers anti-democratic program of the government. There is no interest in workers class or democratic demands of the anti-imperialist movement. These, are too annoying and dangerous for the plans of the government, made by ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos, which they want to put for the following years on the agenda. Welfare cuts in amount of billions, higher vigilance, warmongering, cuts on the pensions and attacks against the freedom to assembly.
1st of May 2025: an important base for the new year of struggle
The communists, revolutionaries and anti-imperialists planted with this 1st of May a good base and alignment for the new year of struggle. The Palestine movement, the revolutionary and class conscious parts of the worker’s and people’s movement marched in Vienna in a joined bloc. With the banner of Action for Democratic Rights of the People (ADRV) “Down with the Warmongers and the anti-social thieves!, Forward the working class!”, was also expressed the leading and protruding role of the working class in the struggle against imperialism and hegemony of capital. Red and Palestinian flags waved together symbolically on this international day of struggle of the Proletariat! With that was made an important step for the development of the anti-imperialist movement as an integrant of the revolutionary cause in the new year of struggle.
The communist Banner “Long live the International Communist League! For the reconstitution of the KPÖ!” was also carried on the demonstration in Vienna. As an international unification of communist parties and organizations the International Communist League (ICL) published also this year an important Statement to the 1st of May 2025, that we recommend to all readers. 80 years of Liberation of the Nazifascism: Defense of the Soviet Union
The relatively high presence of soviet flags on this 1st of May, was also very remarkable. With these, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation form Nazifascism, the Austrian revolutionaries hoisted the outstanding role of the Soviet Union and her Red Army in the Liberation from Fascism. On the speech of the Rote Fahne on one of the many demonstrations in various cities was highlighted, that on the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazifascism the unification against the falsification of history, ongoing warmongering and welfare cuts are more necessary then ever – an opinion that many participants of the 1st of May demonstration have in common!
The 1st of May demonstrations were guiding in their dynamics as well as in their combative mood. Therefore a decisive point was that the police’s repressive forces did not want to confront the Palestine solidarity with aggression (like they tried on the 1st of May 2024 f. e.). The possible result of their intervention was not possible to foresee. This needs to be evaluated as an important success.
Therefore the 1st of May was an important and successful contribution for the international day of struggle of the working class. On this basis, keeping up the fight, consolidation of results and marching forward, are the tasks that the 1st of May is leaving us.
