Genocide continues with “Operation Gideon’s Chariots”
The “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” launched by Israel on Sunday, May 18, has already resulted in over 500 Palestinians murdered in just four days. In the last 24 hours alone, more than 80 deaths have been recorded. The murders of this new “unprecedented” operation, which has mobilized 10,000 soldiers, including professionals and reservists, must be added to the more than 53,000 deaths that Israel has caused since October 7, 2023, the majority of whom are women and children.
Without forgetting the total siege that the population has been suffering for more than 70 days, which is only broken by a minimal entry of food that does not meet the needs of the population, which is on the brink of famine. The situation is so severe that the UN has warned that 14,000 babies could die in Gaza in the next 48 hours due to the blockade. “The only things entering Gaza are bombs. There are no safe places,” warned UNRWA. Israel has only allowed the entry of five trucks of humanitarian aid, while 160,000 cubic tons of food remain trapped on the other side of the border.
U.S. imperialism has not taken long to try to take credit for the five meager trucks of food for a population of two million people. Marco Rubio has suggested that it was the “commitment” of the U.S. that allowed the trucks to enter. Donald Trump also claims to be “frustrated” by his inability to “end the war” and “rebuild Gaza.” In a macabre way, his own spokespersons have stated that images of starving children have “affected” Trump. All of this occurs while the brutal genocide continues to be paid for at all costs by U.S. imperialism.
In response to the intensification of Israel’s ground operations, the resistance actions of the Palestinian National Resistance Front have also increased their attacks. The Al-Quds Brigades announced ambushes and attacks against Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. On Monday, May 19, it was reported that fighters detonated previously placed bombs that targeted an Israeli military convoy north of Khan Yunis. The fighters reported seeing helicopters evacuating dead and wounded soldiers. The death of a sergeant was later confirmed. Other similar ambushes have occurred in various camps throughout the Gaza Strip.
