Chile: Clashes and Microbus burned in Cerro Navia
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Periódico El Pueblo on strong clashes that took place in Cerro Navia.
On May 22, clashes were reported between those commemorating the death of Mauricio Morales and the police. In Cerro Navia, skirmishes unfolded, and by the end of the protest, a RED bus was completely consumed by flames.
The combative spirit in various demonstrations across the country confirms that the masses are emerging from the relative lull experienced after the popular uprising of 2019 and the constitutional illusions that attempted, unsuccessfully, to quell popular protest.
Many who attended both yesterday’s events and protests in general agree that “organization is needed,” “we must build a movement,” and “we need to inform ourselves and study more.” These are the current challenges for revolutionary action, as the willingness to fight is very much alive.
Today, the people and particularly the youth are filled with anger over poverty, precarious living conditions, lack of jobs, health care, education, and rising prices. There are also those who are beginning to understand that without a complete change to this old system, everything will remain the same. Therefore, the path of struggle must continue to be propagated, and it is right to rebel.
