After the massive massacre that took place in Rio de Janeiro, perpetrated by the military police, specifically the infamous Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), numerous statements have been released, and many protests have been organized across the country against police violence. A Nova Democracia (AND) is publishing all updates related to this massacre as part of a campaign under the slogan “Enough Massacres!”
We share some reports about various protests that occurred on October 31 in different parts of the country.
In Campinas, there was a mobilization to denounce “the genocide against the poor people in the favelas of Brazil,” specifically highlighting the largest massacre in recent history, which occurred on October 28th in Rio de Janeiro. Workers, students, and activists demonstrated, and on the same day, students from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) blocked one of the university’s entrances in protest against police violence.

In Salvador, a combative march took place at 5 PM. The massacre in Rio was denounced, as well as the state government of Bahia led by Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT). Students distributed leaflets during the mobilization.

In Maringá, a large united event was held to denounce State violence and to call for a campaign against the genocide of poor people. Combative protesters displayed a banner with the following slogan: “Down with the fascist Military Police! Against genocide!”

In the capital, Brasília, people’s movements, activists, students, and democrats took to the streets, denouncing police violence and the opportunism of the PT, responsible for one of the highest numbers of murders by the police in the country. The military police of Brasília surrounded the protesters and attempted to corner them, accusing them of being armed.

Hundreds took to the streets in downtown Florianópolis to denounce the massacre committed by police forces in Rio de Janeiro. Workers, students, social movements, and democratic organizations participated in the mobilization. The position of the State governor, Jorginho Mello, who supported the police operation in Rio de Janeiro and the genocide committed in Palestine by the State of Israel, was also condemned.
