Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal Advocates Strong Boycott of Upcoming Elections
The Revolutionary Communist Party of Nepal (RCPN) has officially called for a vigorous boycott of the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives, scheduled for March 5. This decision was announced following the Party’s fourth Central Committee meeting. The party disclosed its stance during a press conference in Bharatpur, Chitwan.
In its statement, the RCPN reiterated its commitment to scientific socialism, emphasizing that the strategy for the forthcoming elections must align with its foundational principles. The party aims to forge a united front comprising patriots, republican revolutionaries, democrats, and leftists while advocating for an independent and unified government.
The party’s statement criticized both the ruling coalition and opposition parties, asserting they have neglected the fundamental issues affecting the people. They cited rising concerns such as corruption, impunity, unemployment, border disputes, and challenges to national sovereignty. According to RCPN, the current electoral process merely serves as a facade for the ruling parties, distracting from the pressing problems faced by the people.
The election has been characterized by the party as a means to “re-legitimize the brutal system,” claiming that the constitution, parliament, and the entire state apparatus inhibit progress toward social justice, equality, and scientific socialism. Gaurav stated, “Elections do not solve the real problems of the people; they only revive failed leadership. We move forward with a scientific socialist program in the direction of a new democratic revolution.”
The RCPN plans to cultivate a broad alliance through national political coordination among democratic, republican, revolutionary democratic, and leftist factions. In doing so, the party aims to spearhead a mass movement and escalate its struggle by encouraging widespread public participation.
In closing, General Secretary reaffirmed the party’s commitment to boycott the elections and to strengthen its revolutionary efforts against attacks on the people under the guise of electoral processes.
