Repression Faced by Protesters Against HTS Attacks in Istanbul, Turkey

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Yeni Demokrasi. Several mobilizations took place in Turkey against the attacks carried out by the Islamist group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) on the people in Syria.

Youth organizations in Istanbul held a protest at Istanbul University to condemn the attacks by HTS gangs in Syria. The area around the Tradesmen’s Cafeteria in Beyazıt was heavily surrounded by police forces before the press conference. A banner which read “From Kobanê to Aleppo, Resistance Will Win, the Occupiers Will Be Defeated” was displayed at the protest.

Throughout the demonstration, slogans such as “Shoulder to Shoulder Against Fascism,” “Long Live the Resistance of the Kurdish People,” “Long Live the Resistance of the Rojava People,” and “The Youth Are Here, Standing with Rojava” were chanted.

While the press statement was being read, a fascist attempted a provocation. The youth did not allow the fascist provocation to succeed and intervened against the person attempting the provocation. The police, who had been blockading youth organizations and creating a breeding ground for provocation from the beginning, then surrounded the revolutionary youth. 56 people, including 2 Partizan readers, were detained under police torture.

50 PEOPLE WERE RELEASED.

56 revolutionary youths who were detained were taken to the Nationalist Political Branch. 50 of them, including Partizan readers, were released from the hospital after giving their statements. It was learned that 6 people will be brought to court today on charges of “violating Law No. 2911, resisting the police, and propaganda.”
