Chile: Coquimbo May Day Rally, International Workers’, Peasants’, and People’s Day
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the 1st of May statement published on the Facebook page of El Pueblo Newspaper of Chile.
Friday, May 1
Starting at 9:00 a.m.
Tierras Blancas, COQUIMBO, 360 Bartolome Blanche Street, at the San Ramón Neighborhood Association
“We are residents, students, workers, seasonal laborers, women, laborers, and the people—we are the ones who generate the wealth that those at the top, the big bourgeoisie, the landlords, and imperialism steal from us and take away.
There will be a communal meal, live music, an open mic, and a fair for the people!
Those at the top are unloading their crisis onto our backs.
The constant price hikes, the lack of decent housing, education as a business, and the anti-people and repressive laws enacted by the current government of hunger—the arch-reactionary, Yankee imperialist puppet of Kast, manager of the old State—confirm the crisis of imperialism and of this system that only benefits the richest and bleeds our people dry.
If we generate the wealth, it is up to us to change this system of injustice and hunger, destroying the three mountains that oppress us, and to carry out the New Democratic Revolution.
We revolutionaries who are participating in this event call for a return to and further development of the legacy of Luis Emilio Recabarren, leader of the Chilean proletariat, organizer of the masses in our country, and founder of the authentic proletarian party—a party that was usurped by the bourgeoisie.
Serve the people wholeheartedly to secure the people’s rights: dignified, high-quality, and free healthcare; decent and safe jobs; an end to employers’ abuses; decent housing as a fundamental right; an education system that serves the people; and a future without oppressors or the oppressed.
Long live May 1st!”
