On May 7, the US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz docked in the coast of Rio de Janeiro to conduct joint exercises with the Brazilian Navy. The ship is carrying 60 aircraft and 5,000 soldiers, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports.
The US forces will take part in Operation Southern Seas 2026, alongside the Brazilian Navy and other lackeys of US imperialism such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Uruguay. The operation will take place in the first half of May.
This operation adds to the numerous crimes committed in recent months by Yankee imperialism in Latin America: on May 4, they murdered two fishermen in the Caribbean. In total, 55 operations have been carried out against vessels accused of being “drug traffickers,” resulting in the murder of 187 people. Meanwhile, the naval blockade against Cuba continues.
We have on several occasions reported on this increasing intervention by Yankee imperialism in Latin America:
Regarding Ecuador we translated a statement by the Defense Front of the People’s Struggles in Ecuador (FDLP-EC):
We also wrote a note on the opening of an FBI office in the country:
