On April 30 the Israeli forces kidnapped pro-Palestinian activists that were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla. After days of detention, all the activists were released except two, Thiago Ávila and Saif Abu Keshek, who made a hunger strike protesting against their illegal detention. Yesterday it was reported that both have been released.

In several countries protests were organized in solidarity with the activists and condemned the crimes by the State of Israel.

A protest took place in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, in Itamaraty, Brasilia, on the 6th of May. Dozens of activists protested against imperialism and the crimes of the State of Israel. The wife of Thiago Ávila, Lara Souza, was among the attendees. Several organizations participated, such as: the Anti-imperialist Committee General Abreu e Lima, the Base Collective Honestino Guimarães (CBHG), the National Executive of the Pedagogy Students (ExNEPe), the Revolutionary Brazilian Communist Party (PCBR), the collective Together! And the Party of the Working Cause (PCO).

The relations between Brazil and the State of Israel and the pro-Israeli attitude of sectors allegedly part of the “left” were condemned. The torture against Thiago Ávila was denounced. The Palestinian and Iranian Resistances were highlighted because they showed the “inability of the Nazi-fascist weapons to defeat the will of freedom” and that “the enemy, even tough they might seem giant, has feet of clay”. Yankee imperialism and Israeli flags were torched as part of the protest.

The Committee of Minas Gerais in Solidarity with the Palestinian people called a rally in Belo Horizonte on the 7th of May.
