On Monday residents of Bardibas have blocked the highway and launched a protest after the government prepared to use bulldozers to evict landless peasants and poor workers from their settlements.

Local residents blocked the BP National Highway in the Kalapani area, which connects the Kathmandu Valley and the eastern area of the country. The protesters even set fire to a official’s vehicle. According to police, locals have been protesting in the Kalapani area since Monday afternoon.

Government officials went to the area and issued a notice the neighbors to vacate their homes. The protest continues, traffic is still disrupted in that area and government officials are in the area still negotiating with landless peasants and poor workers.
