The Mural Newspaper of Mexico writes in it’s recent supplemental of the upcoming 2026 Football World Cup, of which several matches will be held in Mexico. They denounce the lackey State for letting their strings be pulled by imperialism, primarily Yankee imperialism, focusing on massive infrastructure projects instead of the many pressing needs of the people.

A boycott has been set in motion, mobilizing broad sections of the people, including the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE), which have announced a strike ahead of the upcoming World Cup, as well as the Federation of Socialist Peasant Students of Mexico (FECSM) and the mothers and families searching for their loved ones, opposing this blatant disregard of the needs of the people, including the alarming amount of rising numbers of disappeared people, the complete lack of any plans from the State to raise the wage of educational workers to livable levels and megaprojects conducted on the land of indigenous, facilitating plunder, dispossession and the unraveling of the fabrics of the communities.

Denounced is also the State’s complete dismissal of the just issues raised by the popular movements, with Sheinbaum’s blatant disregard evident as she prioritizes meetings with representatives of the bourgeoisie such as Carlos Slim, or puts on a show of ‘bread and circus’ through meetings with foreign musical artists. As more than 132,500 people remain missing to this day, and 72,000 bodies remain unidentified in the active war on the people of Mexico, Sheinbaum chooses to ignore the demands of the people, while defending and protecting “the narco-governors of Michoacán, Guerrero, Sinaloa […]” and others.

Mural concludes its supplemental with the following call:

“We in the popular and democratic press echo this call, which, starting on June 1, will bring together various streams of struggle in Mexico City and other parts of the country. The central task is to merge them into a great revolutionary current. With the World Cup, the eyes of the world will be on Mexico. This is a historic moment that workers and the people must seize in order to launch the General Strike of National Resistance against the old State and imperialism.

Don’t let the ball roll!”
