A Nova Democracia (AND) reports that during a recent debate during the 366th episode of A Propósito, broadcast on the youtube channel of AND, Wender, a representative of the Brazilian section of the International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) stated that defending Cuba cannot be limited to denouncing the United States’ (US) aggression against the island. According to him, solidarity with the Cuban people must be linked to the concrete anti-imperialist struggle in each country.

According to Wender, the US is facing an unprecedented crisis and, in the face of its declining hegemony, is increasingly resorting to provoking wars and unrest. In his view, the aggression against Cuba must be understood within the same context as the offensive against Venezuela and the failed attempt to force Iran to capitulate. Wender explains that the political and moral defeat suffered by the US in the face of the Iranian Resistance has pushed imperialism to seek a new victory in the Caribbean.

According to the AIL representative, Cuba must maintain a firm stance of national resistance, without bowing to Washington or believing that it will be saved by any other power. Highlighting the need for organizing the people and to develop self sufficiency, and emphasizing the importance of armed struggle, Wender stated that “an armed people, armed masses, as Chairman Mao Tsetung said, is what can prevent any kind of aggression,”.

Wender mentions also the League of Poor Peasants (LCP) in Rondônia as an example of combating the latifundium “servile to imperialism,” stating that combating imperialism in Brazil is also “in fact, an expression of solidarity and support with the struggle of the Cuban people.”
