In Ankara, Turkey, the 13th anniversary of the murder of Ethem Sarısülük was commemorated at the site of his death, despite attempts by the repressive forces of the State to intervene, Yeni Demokrasi reports.

Ethem Sarısülük was murdered in the Gezi Park protests in Ankara 13 years ago, and in response to a call from Ankara Labor and Democracy Forces, members from the New Democratic Youth and readers of Partizan had gathered in Güvenpark, where Sarısülük was murdered. Despite attempts by the repressive forces of the State to disperse the commemoration through the use of tear gas, the participants pressed on.

The names of those murdered in the Gezi Park protests were read aloud, met with slogans of “They live on!”, after which the commemoration was continued in Konur Street, where the police again attacked and the protesters confronted and combated the repressive forces.
