Protests erupted on Tuesday in several suburbs of Nairobi (according to different versions, in Kiamaiko and Mathare) against recent abductions of Kenyan activists. The protesters used boulders to block roads for several hours during the morning. The police proceeded to wage a brutal attack, murdering one activist and injuring two more.
This is the third protest directed against the recent abductions. The protesters condemn the disappearance of two activists who have been detained and disappeared for days. While the State completely disregards what happened and remain silent, it also deploys its repressive forces to quell the justified anger of the people. Last week, demonstrators staged two days of protests, blocking roads in the Huruma area while demanding information about the whereabouts of the disappeared activists.
