We hereby share an unofficial translation of the July-August editorial from Mural Newspaper, published on the 3rd of August.
When Lenin studied imperialism, he provided us with a very specific characterization of it. He said that… “Imperialism is a specific historical stage of capitalism. Its specific character is three-fold: imperialism is (1) monopoly capitalism; (2) parasitic or decaying capitalism; (3) moribund capitalism.” Based on this premise, we must analyze the current situation of the general crisis of imperialism, and particularly that of Yankee imperialism.
As we all know, Trump’s second term in the White House began with the signing of dozens of executive orders (January 2025) in which US imperialism set aside various economic and trade agreements with different countries, including Canada, Mexico, and its own allies in the European Union, as well as China. Thus began the imposition of tariffs, which we analyze in these pages as an emerging mechanism of Yankee imperialism to ensure the greatest concentration of capital and industrial centralization within its grasp. This move is linked to the monopolistic nature of imperialism.
Later, Yankee imperialism began to make the flexibilization—or lack thereof—of tariffs, and the ratification—or lack thereof—of trade agreements with other countries contingent on those countries’ greater submission to its interests, primarily regarding control over raw materials—which are essentially natural resources such as water, land, hydrocarbons, rare earth elements, lithium, etc. The fascist regime in Kyiv itself sought to bow to this US policy in exchange for continuing to enjoy its protection. This move is linked to the parasitic nature of imperialism and is part of its process of permanent decomposition.
Subsequently, with the deployment of troops in the Caribbean Sea and attacks on civilian vessels accused of “drug trafficking” (summer of 2025); threats of annexation against Greenland, the bombings of Venezuela, the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro, and the criminal aggression against Iran (early 2026), US imperialism went on the military offensive against the peoples, threatening Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia in the process, and expanding its aggression in the Middle East. This move is linked to the moribund nature of imperialism and reminds us that war is the continuation of politics by other means—namely, through violence.
These highlights perfectly confirm the characterization of imperialism that we noted at the beginning. This calls on us to closely follow the course of events, understanding that the general crisis of imperialism imposes a relationship of collusion and struggle between the two superpowers (the US and Russia) and with the other powers (including social-imperialist China). Amid all this, Yankee imperialism has gone on the offensive in preparing for a new imperialist world war over the redivision of the world. This is evident in the recent international summits of imperialism led by the Yankees, such as the G7 in Évian, France (June 2026), and the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey (July 2026). Is it any wonder that, following these summits, Yankees resumed its aggression against Iran while European powers mobilized ships to the Persian Gulf?
But there is more. Yankee imperialism, mired in a deep crisis of decay, has announced that it will go on the offensive against what it calls “far-left political terrorism.” It made this declaration at its so-called Ministerial on the the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, held in the US (July 2026), where it launched a direct attack on antifascist, anti-imperialist, and communist movements in North America and around the world, calling on the governments present at the event to unleash a witch hunt against them.
Through the voice of the Yankees, international imperialism is not only confirming its monopolistic, parasitic, and moribund nature; it is not only revealing its warmongering appetites and its preparations for war. It is also admitting that the World Proletarian Revolution is the main danger and trend, and will therefore act like a wounded tiger.
The international landscape taking shape today demands that workers and the people steadfastly maintain their course, and this—among other things—means continuing to analyze the concrete situation by observing what is happening on the enemy’s side in order to anticipate scenarios, maintain revolutionary vigilance and security, preserve our own forces, and build them up in the heat of the class struggle. We in the democratic and revolutionary movements—now labeled as “far-left political terrorism”—must bear in mind that imperialism and all reactionaries are paper tigers.
