Spanish State – Servir al Pueblo: Once Again, on the Massacre in Ceuta

Between July 30th and 31st, tens of thousands of migrants crossed the border into Ceuta, both by land and by swimming, with estimates ranging from 50,000 to 60,000 depending on the institutional source. Between 1,500 and 2,000 people had crossed the fence in the previous ten days. The vast majority has already been deported, having been immediately returned, according to the government’s own reports. In addition, at least 67 people drowned at sea, a massacre far greater than the one that occurred in Melilla in 2022.
In the wake of these new waves of migrants, fascist gangs have taken to the streets of Ceuta and carried out veritable pogroms against the migrants, shouting “invaders” at them and brutally attacking them.
In several cases, these fascist attacks took place under the watchful eye of the police forces that intervened only half-heartedly to try to calm tensions—in some cases revealing the State’s role in giving free rein to these fascist forces, and also exposing its cowardice ––When faced with unarmed teachers, as in the strike in Valencia, they are brave and fierce, but not so much when faced with an out-of-control mob.
Meanwhile, Núcleo Nacional has taken advantage of the crisis to announce that it would send its thugs to Ceuta, and has organized demonstrations in front of the Moroccan embassy in Madrid, as well as in front of the Moroccan consulate in Barcelona. These actions have been explicitly supported—or matched by similar demonstrations—by other fascist groups such as the Falange, or even through joint calls for action by the Workers’ Front, the Party of Alvise Pérez, the leader of the fascist paramilitary group Desokupa, and other similar groups.
Once again, we see that despite fascist mobilizations—with paramilitary groups taking action—the Spanish State’s forces have not responded with the same ferocity. This episode of violence against migrants is nothing new and should come as no surprise; rather, it is part of a growing trend of fascist organization and pogroms in the Spanish State. Let us recall what happened in Torre Pacheco, which we reported on last year, when the July 2025 attacks on migrants were organized:
In this regard, we recall our position on how to combat fascist terrorism:
“We must strengthen our self-defense. We must close ranks to combat imperialist chauvinism and fascist terrorism. If the reactionaries arm themselves with machetes and bats, the working class’s response must be proportional. The proletariat must organize and put an end to fascist impunity. And, of course, we must banish the false notion that we are living in times of peace from the labor movement. Such ideas are false; international and national events make it clear that we are living in times of war and that the proletariat must prepare to face it. To do otherwise is to lead the class down the path of capitulation. The whole world must treat the issue of self-defense as urgent and necessary.”1
The people of Ceuta have expressed their dignity and the prevailing sentiment of the masses: their rejection of these fascist gangs, their agitators, and anyone who seeks to promote pogroms or gain political capital from the current situation. Thus, following the announcement by the Nazis of Núcleo Nacional that they would appear in Ceuta and the appearance of some of their thugs, as well as the appearance of the fascist agitator Alvise Pérez, the masses of Ceuta cornered them, and the police forces halted the masses’ action and escorted the fascists until they left the city:
This government has characterized these events as a “violation of Spain’s territorial integrity,” has approved the deployment of the army in Ceuta, and has immediately deported nearly all the migrants who arrived (nearly 50,000), flouting its own bourgeois legal system (let us recall that the Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal to immediately deport those who arrive by sea). At the same time, the government has already begun construction of new barriers along the maritime border, which will ensure that the border becomes an even larger graveyard.
In this way, Spanish imperialism—one of the main exploiters and oppressors of the Moroccan masses, which also plays a decisive role in the plunder of other nearby countries that are sources of migrants, such as Mauritania, Senegal, and others—not only violates bourgeois law but has also protected fascist gangs, allowed them to act, and is now strengthening the militarization at the border. Once again, this government has caused the deaths of dozens of people, in collusion in this case with the lackey government of Morocco—which enables the imperialists to plunder its country and oppress its people, and which benefits from these migratory movements of its own population, serving in many cases as a safety valve that alleviates pressure on the domestic front, for in the face of rampant poverty and the growing protest and mobilization of its masses—for Palestine, against impoverishment, and against the worsening of their living conditions—the lackey government prefers to push them toward mass migration, to prevent their anger and yearning for a better life from developing within the country itself and leading to a more than justified rebellion.
