Two Israeli soldiers were eliminated on Wednesday 5th of August during an Israeli ground operation “targeting Hezbollah” in the town of Majdal Zoun, south Lebanon. The soldiers from the Israeli 55th Brigade were entering a building that the Israeli forces had been using for an extended period of time, where an explosive device had been planted. In addition seven more soldiers were wounded. These were the first recorded Israeli fatalities in Lebanon since late June and Israeli press proclaims their worry that Hezbollah is moving towards guerrilla warfare, and “changing the rules of the game”.

This elimination was reported amid continuing Israeli military operations––despite the ongoing US-directed talks between Israeli and Lebanese officials and the ceasefire with Hezbollah–– in southern Lebanon. Recent Israeli violations including an escalation of airstrikes and drone strikes reported on August 5–7th between Mansouri and Majdal Zoun, as well as Tebnine area, demolition of houses in towns Hadatha and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah. In the same period, further incidents were reported elsewhere in the south, including operations in several other areas ––in Kfar Shouba, with bulldozing operations and machine gun fire, was reported. Separately, on Friday 7th Israeli forces targeted the Lebanese Army trying to enter al-Mansouri, killing one soldier.
