Popular Press is Supported by the People: AND Launches Fundraising Website
While the major newspapers and magazines of the big bourgeoisie and latifundium receive rivers of money from the power groups of the reactionary ruling classes—servants of imperialism, mainly Yankee imperialism—and from their governments, in order to spread disinformation and attack the people’s struggles and national interests, the newspaper A Nova Democracia does not receive a single penny from these monopolies, nor from Party funds or imperialist NGOs. For more than 24 years, the newspaper has been sustained primarily by the efforts of its readers, supporters, and the masses who recognize the need to own and keep alive their own press.
This concept was at the heart of the work of the great professor Fausto Arruda, the eternal director-general of AND and a great driving force behind the popular and democratic press. Fausto argued that activists in the workers’, peasants’, students’, and women’s struggles should “embrace the newspaper,” establish support quotas, organize brigades and Support Committees, and expand its reach among the masses. The experience accumulated by AND confirms a lesson from the history of the democratic, popular, national, and anti-imperialist press: the people must sustain a truly independent and militant platform, capable of informing and inspiring the masses to struggle.
A Nova Democracia’s new Apoia.se platform is yet another tool for organizing this permanent support. Sign up for the platform, earn exclusive rewards, strengthen the people’s press, and help ensure that the newspaper continues to reach the people’s struggles across the country. The people’s press is sustained by the people. Embrace AND.
