Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo on the 10th of August.
The upcoming 30th of August, the international Day of the Detained-Disappeared is commemorated, a day with great historical importance for the great movements of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo from Argentina, the Saturday-Mothers from Turkey and the Searching Mothers in Mexico.
In our country this crime by the State is present in two moments. On the one hand in the “dirty war” in the period made up from the second half of the 1960s until the 1980s and on the other hand in the “war against drugs” and the militarization since December 2006 until today.
The trail of murders (more than 600,000) and disappearances (more than 135,000) is a result of the war against the people. A counterinsurgency strategy of oppression that is orchestrated from Washington, coordinated by the Mexican State and developed by the armed forces, the police, the white guards, the paramilitaries and the delinquent groups. In the middle of this reactionary war the plans of Yankee imperialism can be seen, such as the imposition of mega projects, the balkanization of the national territory and the military intervention against our country.
In the long list of activists, unionists, students, popular leaders, revolutionaries, guerrillas, and communists that have been victims to forced disappearance, we emphasize our comrade Doctor Ernesto Sernas García, who disappeared from his house in Oaxaca on the 10th of May 2018 after having defended 23 members of our organization, who had been accused of terrorism and carrying explosives reserved for the use of the Mexican army. More than eight years after this crime against humanity has been committed we denounce that the Mexican State has not helped with a single clue about his whereabouts, has not realized assertive actions in his search and even less has identified the material and intellectual authors of this fact.
In this sense the Front of the People – Red Sun calls upon its general militancy, its sympathizers, its partners and friends in Mexico and around the world to:
1) Realize denouncing actions against the Mexican State for the immediate completion of the Urgent Action 540/2018 of the Committee on Enforced Disappearance (CED) of the UN.
2) Realize mobilizations, meetings, forums and more types of protest activities in solidarity with the struggle for the presentation alive of Dr. Sernas García and the more than 135,000 disappeared people in Mexico.
3) Join the national and international campaign #DrSernasPresentaciónConVida
