FAI – Chile: On the recent mobilization in the Zapallar High School in Curicó, Maule

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement issued by the Anti-imperialist Front – Chile (FAI – Chile) and shared by Newspaper El Pueblo on its Instagram account on the 11th of August.

Statement on the mobilization in the Zapallar High School in Curicó that waged an important struggle to improve the infrastructure of their facilities after years of abandonment and broken promises.

The victory has probably not been correctly evaluated.

On the first place, the high school has not seen important mobilizations in years, the authorities have assumed incomplete measures without resolving the problems diligently, and the student organizations did not have a strong participation until shortly before the students rose recently.

The impact achieved was so relevant, that it affected the entire local agenda and the media of the area. That’s why the DAEM [Translator’s note: the local authority in charge of education], the leadership of the high school, and even part of the leadership of the CEVI [Translator’s note: Students Authority] rushed to take measures to suffocate the mobilization as soon as possible.

The phenomenon of increasing demands by the communities in different schools and high schools of Curicó, was also impulsed by the example of the students of the Zapallar High School.

This struggle is also a blow to the Kast country-selling government, as they want to cut and deviate the resources for the educational facilities to pay external debt, mainly to United States. Therefore we affirm that this is also a blow to Yankee imperialism and to its dark plans to unleash the crisis on the oppressed countries as Chile.

With certainty, this mobilization is a proof that only the struggle gives what the rich deny, showing that in the face of injustices and abandonment, it is right to rebel.

We want to make a special mention to the Anti-imperialist Student Core (NEA) which was quickly at the forefront of the demands and struggled to develop them as much as possible. We call on them to learn from these lessons and prepare to win over the natural organizations of the masses, with new rights to defend and secure in the horizon.
