VIDEO: Revolutionaries in Colombia Welcome the Combative Student Protests in India

We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article published by Nueva Democracia on August 10.

On August 7, protests were called in Colombia against the presidential inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella, a lackey of Yankee imperialism and executioner of the Colombian people.

The days leading up to the mobilization were marked by an intense campaign of pacifism and inaction on the part of the leadership of the bourgeois Parties that make up the Historical Pact, the Party of the former president. Despite this, the people took to the streets in Cali, Bogotá, and Medellín. In Cali, a rally was held in defense of the Monument to the Resistance, a sculpture created by activists and militant youth from the Great Popular Uprising, which some sectors of the far right have threatened to tear down. In Bogotá, artistic and cultural acts were carried out against the new president. In Medellín, a mobilization took place that included banners against fascism and the far right, the burning of effigies of De la Espriella and Trump, and cultural performances.

In addition, revolutionaries from the Student Movement in the Service of the People (MESP) and the Anti-Imperialist League issued a video message saluting the militant student protests in India, denouncing the Rowlatt Act and Operation Kagaar, and encouraging the youth of India to continue on the path of revolution.
