Chile – Anti-Imperialist Front: 53 Years Since the CIA-directed Coup d’État
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement published by Anti-Imperialist Front Chile on their Instagram account on September 9.
This September 11th marks 53 years since the CIA-directed coup d’État—that is, the coup orchestrated by Yankee imperialism through the fascist military junta. It may seem like a long time, but even today, in numerous towns and cities across Chile, young people and large groups gather year after year to protest on September 11.
Chile is a semi-colonial and semi-feudal country. Imperialist oppression, mainly Yankee, grips our nation, allowing only formal independence and fostering a backward form of capitalism tied to the interests of the great powers, known as Bureaucratic Capitalism, typical of semi-feudal countries.
The imperialists are the ventriloquists or puppeteers and the “presidents” are their puppets who, as such, decide very little, acting according to the commands of their masters.
Allende’s administration sought to ride two horses at once. On the one hand, it sought to “nationalize” the mining industry by paying millions in compensation to Yankee imperialism, thereby consolidating its position to serve Russian social-imperialism.
At the national level, Popular Unity (UP) coalition attempted to stifle the revolutionary struggle. How? By presenting the false theory of the “Chilean road,” which is nothing more than Khrushchev’s revisionist thesis on the peaceful path to socialism. A rotten thesis of class conciliation that denies the class struggle. The underlying aim was to present themselves to imperialism not as a threat but as obedient country-sellers, to maintain the support of the parties of the big landlords, and to manipulate the demands of the masses to prevent them from rebelling.
The fact that the UP leadership wanted to ride two horses, opening the doors to Russian social-imperialism, was not viewed favorably by Yankee imperialism, which was unwilling to share the spoils. Thus, Yankee imperialism orchestrated the coup that ousted the UP and Allende, replacing them with the Fascist Military Junta (JMF). The objective was to restructure the old big landlord-bourgeois State and advance bureaucratic capitalism, bolstering non-State monopoly capital.
That is why, on this 11th, it is right to rebel, fighting for a true New Democratic Revolution.
Anti-imperilalist Front – Chile also called for a mobilization in La Serena on September 11, at 6 p.m. intersection of Bandejon Central, avenida de Aguirre with Calle Balmaceda.
