Mexico – Sol Rojo: Report on Our Commemorative Week.

We hereby share an unofficial translation of a report published by Sol Rojo on September 30.

Sol Rojo, building the Front of the People!

Last week, from September 21–26, we held a Commemorative Week to mark the 10th anniversary of our democratic organization’s public life.

Here we share a brief report on our activities.

We recall that during the week of September 21–26, 2016, our democratic organization was unveiled to the public after several years of preparation. It began with a press conference announcing our first march and sit-in to demand the release of our 23 comrades, who had been imprisoned in maximum-security prisons and later transferred to the Etla prison in Oaxaca, accused of terrorism and possession of explosives reserved exclusively for military use.

At that time, a group of family members and comrades held a sit-in outside the District Courthouse in front of El Llano in the city of Oaxaca, resisting repeated eviction attempts by the government in power.

Thanks to this resistance, our comrades were granted conditional release in three separate groups on September 24, 25, and 26, respectively. Our comrades recall that on September 26—the very day our last prisoners were released—electricity finally reached the Francisco Villa Community after several years without service and a struggle to gain access to it.

And so our democratic organization announced its existence by fighting in the streets of the City of Resistance [translators note: Oaxaca] – back then during our “Current of the People” phase, and now as the Front of the People – Red Sun.

We’ve celebrated these 10 years as we should: with actions in the streets. Red Sun, building the Front of the People!

State of Mexico

Our comrades put up posters in the Chalco Valley, Temamatla, and Tenango del Aire, mainly at bus stops and along roads.

Mexico City

Our comrades put up posters at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM) in Xochimilco.

Similarly, they put up posters and banners at the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM) in San Lorenzo Tezonco.

Oaxaca

Our comrades painted graffiti both on highways and in the city. They also put up many posters in the main town centers, as well as banners inside and outside the Benito Juárez Autonomous University of Oaxaca (UABJO).

Our Commemorative Week culminated in a political and cultural event held in one of the birthplaces of our democratic organization, where speeches were given by comrades from the Popular Student Movement (MEP), the People’s Youth Brigades (BJP), the People’s Women’s Movement (MFP), the League of Communities for the Agrarian Revolution (LCRA), and the AIL (Mx) Promotional Committee, as well as community leaders who served as gracious hosts.

Throughout the Commemorative Week, we received greetings from various democratic organizations, human rights groups, and class-conscious unions in Mexico, who celebrated Sol Rojo’s 10 years of public life. We thank everyone for their solidarity and express our reciprocal solidarity and militant commitment.

Combat troops of the revolution – Serve the people with all your heart!
