Oakland– 300 youth from three of Oakland’s high schools walked out for Palestine and its resistance on October 7th. The three schools converged at Oakland’s Lake Merritt for a rally, attended by approximately 200 students and supporters. Revolutionary Youth Organization – Oakland gave speeches on the need to mobilize and organize the youth of Oakland for revolution and to support the Palestinian struggle and the wider anti-imperialist movement. Students from Oakland Technical and Oakland High School gave speeches on the need to agitate their fellow students, rise up against school and police repression, and support the Palestinian struggle. Students from proletarian backgrounds and neighborhoods, marched through the streets of Oakland chanting support for Palestine and its resistance, and chanting against ICE, the Trump regime, and Israel. One group of over 100 students marched for nearly an hour in the heat to arrive at the lake and meet their fellow youth.

Many youth were subject to threats and repression, with school administration even calling the police on the walkout. Some students were threatened with suspension and detention, but still walked out due to strong solidarity with Palestine. The youth were extremely agitated on the hypocrisy of the school system, claiming to protect students and uplift their voices, while also threatening them for political activity. Students also mobilized against zionist agitators try to film them, scaring them away from the rally as well.

Despite this repression, the students stood firm in their determination to walkout and took up international solidarity wholeheartedly.

Several Zionists and reactionaries who dared to show their face and try to disrupt the demonstration were met with the righteous anger of the youth. Zionist signs were destroyed and teared up by the youth. A Zionist who came to harass and film the protesters had her phone ripped away and thrown into a nearby water fountain.

Dozens of police showed up in force against the high schoolers on bikes, in cars, and bringing out the county sheriff helicopter.
