Brazil: Yankee Imperialism Continues to Influence the Elections – Also Indirectly

With the second round of the electoral farce on October 25 rapidly approaching and the polls showing the lead of Bolsonaro shrinking, Yankee imperialism is deploying several methods of less direct influence. We have previously shared a translation of an editorial by A Nova Democracia (AND) highlighting more direct intervention.

AND has now reported on intervention also trough media and “social” media monopolies like Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, etc.). There are reports of functions of profiles on Instagram and Whatsapp of the campaign of Lula being limited and not showing up in searches, while Bolsonaro was promoted by the algorithm in ways that are prohibited by electoral rules in Brazil. AND goes further into detail, analyzing for instance the use of Artificial Intelligence tools.

Meanwhile, other figures, such as the US-lackey Milei of Argentina, have already begun preventively sowing doubts about the legitimacy of the election results, as Bolsonaro’s father had during his last electoral defeat, before staging what was described as an attempted coup, as AND reports.

Meanwhile the agitation campaign for the boycott of the electoral farce keeps up. As we have previously reported, the blog Servir Ao Povo has been continuously updating a report of graffiti made under the slogan “Don’t vote! Long live the People’s War!”, signed by the Communist Party of Brazil (P.C.B.).

In a joint statement several student and youth organizations (People’s Dawn – AP, Student Collective Sons of the People – CEFP, Red Mangrove – MV, People’s Revolutionary Student’s Movement – MEPR, and Red Unity – League of Revolutionary Youth (UV-LJR)) call to take to the streets and increase the level of mobilizations against the electoral farce, Yankee interventionism and the increasing fascistization. They highlight:

“Therefore, we call upon the youth and the masses to engage in the systematic and organized struggle against the extreme right, fascism, and the threats and intervention of the USA in Brazil and America, to support the Agrarian Revolution, and to cast away illusions regarding the ‘institutions’ (today made up of Vorcaro’s concubines and which will become increasingly fascist), with the electoral farce, and with all the legalism and electoralism of the parties of the established order. Fight Flávio Bolsonaro with mobilization and street protests!”

You can find the complete statement here.

One example of this taking to the streets took place on October 21, in Tijuca, where the International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) together with several popular, revolutionary and student organizations denounced Yankee interventionism. They highlighted this as part of the ongoing continental campaign by the AIL. During the mobilization, US and Israeli flags were burned, and in speeches the need for an electoral boycott and for resistance against increasing repression, reactionarization and fascistization was highlighted.

AIL also calls for a plenary meeting at the 8th floor of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) on October 26 at 18:00.
