Thousands Mobilize for Global Strike Day in Support of Gaza

The Global Campaign to Stop the Genocide in Gaza called for participation in the global general strike on Monday, April 7, to demand an end to the ongoing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip. Local calls were made in Jordan, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, the UAE, Syria, occupied Jerusalem, and all Arab countries. The Palestinian Forces in other countries called upon the people to respond and mobilize. Among others Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) joined the call and issued statements.

We hereby share some of the mobilizations and actions that took place.

Palestinians went on general strike across West Bank in solidarity with Gaza. Cities, towns and refugee camps joined the strike on Monday in solidarity with the Gaza Strip and there was a full shutdown:

Hamas denounced tat the treacherous Palestinian Authority repressed the mobilizations done in solidarity with Gaza and detained several protesters in West Bank. In Ramallah a demonstration was dispersed near the Al-Manara Square.

Multiple protests erupted in Bangladesh where students, teachers, democratic rights organizations and many other activists joined the call to strike for Gaza. The activists targeted Yankee companies and other linked to Israel, such as Bata, KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Puma, etc., in commercial areas. The protests and actions took place for two days. At least 60 people were arrested.

In Karachi, Pakistan, all the major markets, bazaars and shops were closed. The protesters stormed Yankee businesses and others which are supporting Israel or are linked with Israel.
