Brazil: LCP – “Guaxeba” Military Police from Rondônia Murders One More Peasant
We share hereby an unofficial translation of a statement issued by the League of Poor Peasants (LCP)’s National Commission. We have recently reported on this murder:
At the dawn of August 8, 2025, in the Valdiro Chagas Area, in the municipality of Machadinho do Oeste-RO, where dozens of families have been fighting for the land of the Jatobá property for over 10 years and have been living and working there since 2019, the BOPE (Special Operations Battalion) of the Military Police (MP) of Rondônia shot at the peasants. This occurred exactly on the eve of the day marking 30th anniversary of the Battle of Santa Elina, which popularized the armed resistance by the peasants of Corumbiara. At the end of this battle, the same BOPE’s troops, reinforced by dozens of guaxebas (big landlords’ hired goons), unleashed over 24 hours of terror and savagery, torturing hundreds of peasants and committing a massacre of at least 14 of them, including an adult woman and a 7-year-old girl.
Now families were taken by surprise in the Valdiro Chagas Area, helicopters been flying low and firing on their homes and on persons. They murdered one peasant and injured others. To protect themselves from the bloody action from the MP, many people sought refugee in the jungle and are still missing. The police burned and destroyed homes, structures for generating electricity with solar panels, vehicles, and more. They poisoned water wells, destroyed crops, and killed animals. This arbitrary, cowardly, and illegal action by the MP aims to severely terrorize the families, something that the constant attacks by the guaxebas have not achieved.
For several months now, these same families have been attacked systematically by a well-known guaxebas gang, led by the bandit Gesulino and his henchman Diógenes. As we have reported many times, this group of goons has been acting with impunity during several of their incursions, moving along the region’s roads, in the Gedeon Area and the Valdiro Chagas Area, brazenly escorted by MP vehicles.
All these attacks aim to expel the peasants, seize their possessions, and expand the area of the neighboring latifundiums. This armed group has been operating in the region under the command of land-grabbing big landlords from the Union, including some well-known politicians, deputies, and senators linked to Governor Marcos Rocha.
The peasant families have bravely resisted these ongoing attacks and will not leave their lands.
Now after the guaxebas have attacked several times, MP has injured people, destroyed part of the jungle, and ruined crops, they have replaced the guaxebas and carried out their own goons work under the command of the land-grabbing big landlords. But this is nothing new. It is the same state terrorism practiced for decades, since the events of August 9, 1995, in Corumbiara, and they continue to act in the same way to this day. This is how coward and murderous troops of BOPE operate, invading peasant areas illegally to murder workers and their leaders. This is how they have murdered comrades Amaral, Amarildo, and Kevin on August 13, 2021, murdered comrades Gedeon and Rafael in October 2021, and in January 2023, tortured and murdered comrades Esticado and Mandruvá in the Tiago Campim dos Santos area.
Latifundium’s guaxebas
The MP commander himself is the greatest expression of what we have stated. Without delving into the countless tricks, threats, and arbitrary actions committed within the corporation by this sinister figure, Colonel Regis Braguin, the current on-duty commander and now a TikTok influencer, has risen through the ranks in the PM by seeking to present himself as a more loyal henchman and murderer at their service. Braguin is a guaxeba who boasts himself of pursuing peasants and now pukes his lies to incriminate the peasants by accusing the LCP of being a ‘criminal organization.’ Our crime is struggling for land and defending the Agrarian Revolution to end the latifundium and give the land to the poor in the countryside, to landless peasants or those with little land. The one who belongs to a criminal organization is the guaxeba Braguin! And you will not achieve labeling what you truly are, criminals, terrorists creating false narrative of confrontation, falsifying and planting ‘evidence’ all to justify the murders, coward and illegal actions to try to hide your true character, guaxebas of the big landlords that are grabbing the land of the Union!
These coward murderers in service of the big landlords who are grabbing the land of the Union, deceive themselves by thinking that with murders, imprisonments, and repression they will be able to stop the struggle for land. On the contrary, all these attacks reveal that the struggle for the Agrarian Revolution has persisted and advanced more and more. If the big landlords, their armed gangs, and their own MP’s guaxebas attack us, it is because they fear the advance of the Agrarian Revolution, and the ferocity with which they attack us more and more is a demonstration that our struggle is just and that we have achieved our goals of conquering the land and destroying latifundium, giving the land to poor landless peasants or those with little land.
We repeat: they deceive themselves by thinking that their attacks will stop the struggle for land! As long as there is a situation where a handful of land-grabbing landlords, privileged and parasitic to the nation, own the majority of the country’s land while tens of millions of peasants have almost nothing, ruined and increasingly pushed into misery, this struggle will continue and become more brutal. Our struggle is just, our struggle has lasted for centuries, it is a historical cause pending resolution, our struggle is sacred! Sooner than they expect, the oppressors of the people will pay dearly for all the crimes committed. Sooner rather than later, they will be swept away by the advance of the Agrarian Revolution and will be held accountable for their crimes against the poor. It will be at the hands of the people, and it will be much more powerful, bringing with it the thirst for justice of many generations of millions and millions of the oppressed, exploited, and humiliated by the big landlords and their bootlickers armed to the teeth, whether under uniform or not!
